The BrightHaven Bulletin Board

BrightHaven’s email, Facebook and PetFinder network is available for circulating information for animals whose owner/guardian cannot keep them any longer or may be deceased and the family cannot step in to provide loving care. We are also very willing to network shelter animals if given adequate time. We cannot circulate information for animals with close euthanasia deadlines. All animals must qualify by way of age or special need.

Application Checklist

Qualifications:

• A senior (13 years and older)
• A special needs animal
• An animal with a recommendation for euthanasia from a veterinarian

Exemptions:

• A truly sad story at the discretion of the listener
• Farmyard animals
• Requests for transportation state to state
• Certain human dilemmas! For example: For someone seeking an animal loving tenant or seeking accommodation with an animal.

Shelter animals:

The BH email network will accept special requests from shelters and also those wishing to rescue a shelter animal—BUT only if the shelter agrees to work with us to allow time. The email will not state a euthanasia deadline.

Two or three photographs are ideal

The email must have at least one very cute photograph of the animal looking directly into the camera. Eye contact is most important connection as the animal will be gazing directly into the eyes of each person reading. This is very powerful. Other photos can be of full body, playing or an appealing pose. Good photographs are essential.

Next, a story

Well written, and must touch the heart of the reader. It needs to reach that one person who will open their heart and home to this animal.

Location

It must make clear and separate mention of your city and state. These emails travel the globe.

**Please note: There is a fee of $100 for this complete service which utilizes Facebook, Constant Contact and Petfinder, or, alternatively a payment of $20 for a Facebook only listing. (Upon application, fees may be lowered for those who can prove hardship.)

Why we charge for this service: BrightHaven is a non profit organization – existing via the kindness of volunteers and a very small staff.  Our operations encompass a vast array of services and our time is sorely limited. Networking is a small part of our overall mission, which includes holistic sanctuary care, rescue from animal shelters and education. In order to try to help as many people as possible we must charge for our services in order to care for our animals, compensate for staff time towards maintaining the network and cover our overheads. The Bulletin Board relies on spreading the word of the plight of an animal to many people, via email. The email takes time to create and design and the information gathered is vital to success. We feel that this valuable service is something that people should be happy to pay for, especially if it saves the life of an animal. Of course success cannot be guaranteed, especially if there is little time involved, but the cost is surely a drop in the ocean compared to the love and life of your animal?
