BrightHaven's Goal for Animals

BrightHaven Animal Sanctuary is a 23-year old operation that has evolved to embrace the wisdom of holistic health and makes that knowledge of animal care available to the community. BrightHaven Rescue is a newly created branch at BrightHaven now into its second year of saving elderly and special needs animals from euthanasia and placing them directly into foster or forever homes.
BrightHaven Rescue immerged just recently, as the time has come for Gail and Richard Pope, who have dedicated 22 years of their lives running BrightHaven, to pass that legacy on to future generations. The Popes continue to care for the sanctuary animals 24/7 while the rescue branch now operates as an alternative to the Popes’ taking in many more animals until BrightHaven can raise funds to become a fully self-sustaining operation.
BrightHaven has bettered the lives of over 10,000 animals throughout its history. The community and supporters of BrightHaven have stepped forward with an impassioned outcry that BrightHaven continue to make the same difference in the life of animals that it has for years, as well as continuing to bring holistic animal care education forth to animal lovers worldwide. Selflessly, Richard Pope has donated salary funds and housing needs of the sanctuary throughout BrightHaven’s history, and so grand scale funding is now in order for BrightHaven Sanctuary, Rescue and Educational Operations to continue.
What We Can Do Together

With $30,000
- 300 animal lives will be saved from euthanasia this year

Local Outreach Programs connect senior citizens and children with animals in need. Donations reaching $75,000 will allow BrightHaven Sanctuary to be fully supported in moving forward into the future as a sustaining enterprise for animals. This will also enable the operation to meet the local community’s request for programs that connect children and senior citizens to animals in need of attention and play. Our new staff member will both support our expanding operations and implement summer programs for children and senior citizen days at the sanctuary.
With $150,000
National Outreach Programs save and enhance the lives of 40,000 animals. Once the Popes are able to transition the 24/7 care of the sanctuary into the hands of qualified sanctuary staff, the Richard and Gail will proceed in the producing seminars across the country on animal welfare, holistic healing education, and animal hospice care. These seminars will reach veterinary communities, animal owners, many other animal sanctuary and rescue operations across the country, as well as those individuals aspiring to run their own animal sanctuary. The BrightHaven model of high quality holistic care for animals in the home and animal care organizations will be made available nation wide.
With $450,000
Halfway House saves 1,000 Animal Lives Each Year. Currently BrightHaven Rescue Operations can only save an animal from a shelter when a foster or adoptive home is available. While shelters are not always able to reach out to the community and give the senior population of animals a voice, BrightHaven rescue has a specialized focus and structure in place for finding homes for these animals. Often, if given a few more days or weeks, an older or special needs animal can find the loving home they deserve. Our rescue branch currently operates out of Berkeley, California headed by Susan Hoffman and supported by a number of volunteers. The BrightHaven rescue team is poised to expand the rescue and run a new halfway house, modeling the same integrity and high standard of care as BrightHaven Sanctuary.
